We can safely say that all of us love a good story. This is one of the reasons why we decided to write about Roo, a rescued golden retriever and the pet of blogger Brian Beker.
Thousands of animals are left in shelters around the United States, hoping to get adopted one day. Luckily for Roo, Brian Beker found her and decided to adopt her. Even though Roo is in good hands at the moment, this wasn’t always the case.
She was dubbed as ‘’the most petrified golden retriever’’ while in she was still in the shelter. She was left to be euthanizedin a shelter that was known for putting down a lot of the sheltered animals. However, unbeknownstto Roo, Brian Beker was notified about her. Although there were a lot of other dogs that were up for adoption, Brian decided to adopt and rescue Roo.
The start of their adventure was a rough one. Roo was scared from pretty much everything. Even the sound of dental floss getting pulled out of the container was enough to make her run and hide.
As Brian puts it, the dog had only one learned behavior and that was to hide behind the toilet. This dog had been through so much, from being starved to suffering neglect. Furthermore, she was dirty, underweight and had black teeth. To sum it all up, Roo was a complete mess. Nobody from the shelter took care of her and that was evident.
To make things even worse, the golden retriever was only 8 months old at the time. This didn’t stop Brian Beker from saving Roo. He had a lot of work to do, but decided to persevere. In the end, Roo became a dog that enjoys life.
This is evident in the video of Roo, where she is shown inside a store.
Brian decided to take the lovable golden retriever and let her choose her very own toy! It can clearly be seen that she is really enjoying her time in the store, sniffing around her potential picks.
Roo goes through a wide variety of items before making her final choice. At one moment, she stopped to look at and sniff tennis balls. At this moment, we thought that she will go for the most stereotypical toy a dog can get.
Much to our surprise, Roo didn’t choose the tennis balls. Instead, she chose a toy none of us expected. Roo chose a stuffed animal, or a stuffed hedgehog to be more precise. She took out the stuffed toy out of the basket and held on to it. We are absolutely certain that Roo will enjoy playing with her new stuffed friend!
In the end, it makes us really happy to know that a dog like Roo is living a happy life. Her beginning might have been really harsh, but thanks to Brian Beker, she even has a website about her! Nowadays, she travels around the world with her owner, and he makes sure to let us know about the moments they spend together. Now that is a life many dogs (and people) can only hope for.
