We all love the winter season.  The cold weather and the snow are just perfect for skiing or snowboarding. But what will do if you find an abandoned animal alone in the deep snow?

This is what happened to Rafael Pease and his best friend when they went snowboarding in the Chilean Andes. It was Pease’s 21st birthday and as he truly enjoys snowboarding they decided to go up in the mountains and celebrate his day in the snow.

Hence, they went to the top of the mountain and set their Go Pro to video their day. Next, they started to slide through the snow not even presuming that soon they will be in a situation to save a life.

While they were shredding through the fresh snow, Pease saw something that he thought was a rock. Only because he was very distant, he couldn’t see at first that actually, it was a horse.

They immediately stopped and went to him.  The horse was frizzing, frightened and starving. She stood there all alone on a mountainside and the snow was almost high to her stomach. It really looked that she lost all faith that can make it out of there alive.

Fortunately, Rafael and his best friend got by her side just in time. They immediately recognized that this horse needs help right away. Therefore, they bounced into action.

First, they started digging with snow shovels in order to free the exhausted horse from her cold confines. Then they gave her some food so she can regain energy and warmth.

After feeding her, they slowly guide the horse down the mountain.  They were moving slow at first, but soon she regained more energy and started to move rather fast. At last, she was reunited with her owner who had been worried about her because she was missing for four days!

It is a miracle how she survived for four days without food and water, out in the cold.  There is no doubt that if Rafael and his friend didn’t come along, the horse would have not survived. It wasn’t easy to ride the slopes for so long, but they both say that they wouldn’t have it another way.

Soon after this event, Rafael wrote a blog post on The Inertia and said:

“I have been through a lot in life, and through it all I have realized that it’s well worth it to watch out for others — whether they are human or not. And that’s what me and my riding partner did. Hopefully, this inspires you to get out there and not only live your life to the fullest, but to help others do the same.”

All of us together with animals share the life on this wonderful planet. Don’t ever turn your back when an animal is in need! May this serve you as an example that every life creature is important!
